Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) (217-359-6500)

Anyone age 55 or better can choose from more than 170 Retired Senior Volunteer Program stations to contribute his/her time, skills, or professional services to the community.  For those who volunteer, RSVP offers mileage and meal reimbursement if needed, insurance, placement assistance and well-deserved recognition.  RSVP is located at the Stevick Senior Center, 48 Main Street, Champaign, which also serves as a drop-in center for RSVP volunteers and other seniors.

Senior Resource Center (217-352-5100)

Helping seniors remain safe, healthy, productive members of our community with services that include:

Home Care (217-352-5100): Non-medical, in home assistance with personal care (bathing, grooming, dressing), meal preparation, shopping, errands, laundry, and housework. All HomeCare Assistants are pre-screened, trained, certified, background-checked, and closely supervised by professional staff. Personal Planner provides in-home evaluation and recommendations.

Eligibility: Age 60 or older for subsidized service, no restrictions for private pay service 
Service Area: Champaign County 
Fees: Fees are determined by specific services provided and include Personal Planning Assistance that provides a free initial in-home assessment that includes assistance with the coordination of the individual’s care.  A subsidized care program for low-income seniors is also available on a sliding scale fee.

Counseling (In-Home) and Advocacy (217-352-5100): Personal assessment and counseling for seniors who need help with individual or family concerns or who are having difficulty securing services. Services provided by professional case workers trained and experienced in senior needs.

 Family Caregiver Support and Grandparents Raising Grandchildren (217-352-5100): Information and help accessing services, support, advocacy, and training for people providing care or support for senior family members and for seniors raising young relatives.

Eligibility: Those caring for senior family members 60 or older (or of any age with Alzheimer's disease or other dementia) and those 55 or older raising relatives age 18 or under.

Information and Referral (217-352-5100): Information over the telephone about private, public, and volunteer community resources of interest to seniors.

 Meals on Wheels (217-352-5100): Home-delivered, hot, noon meals Monday through Friday in Champaign, Urbana, and limited adjacent areas. For seniors or anyone who has difficulty with cooking due to illness, injury or disability. Sack suppers and special diet meals are available.

Eligibility: Seniors and others who have difficulty preparing a meal due to illness, injury or disability

Outreach (217-352-5100): In-home assessment and advocacy to increase seniors’ access to community resources.

Eligibility: age 60 or older
Service Area: Champaign County

Intake Process: Call for information or to schedule a home visit


Senior Protective Services (217-352-5100): Assistance for seniors living at home who are experiencing abuse, neglect or exploitation. Includes in-home assessment, development of a service plan, counseling, advocacy, practical assistance in obtaining benefits and services, coordination with other agencies, and monitoring.

Eligibility: Age 60 or older living in a home setting

Intake Process: Call to report suspected abuse, anonymous calls accepted, after hours call 1-866-800-1409)


Transportation (217-352-5100): Rides and transportation alternatives throughout Champaign County for grocery shopping, medical appointments, financial or legal matters and quality of life rides.  Quality of life rides include visiting family in hospital or nursing facilities, volunteering, faith services, and hair appointments, etc. Escorted transportation available. Rides provided by volunteers when available (no fee) or by cab (client pays half fare).
