Friendly Caller Program
Sometimes having a friendly voice to talk to can make all the difference.
Adults age 55+ volunteer to provide regular phone socialization to another older adult.
All volunteers are trained and receive ongoing support by Family Service staff to ensure a good match and a positive experience.
Similarly, all participants are assigned to a Family Service caseworker to help address program issues or other appropriate life goals, if desired.
Friendly callers are matched by staff based on volunteers’ availability, participant’s preferred schedule, and common interests.
Friendly Caller Coordinator facilitates the initial matching phone call, assisting with building rapport and setting an agreed upon schedule.
Participants receive a call once or twice a week and chat about common interests. *Call frequency varies and is agreed on during the initial matching phone call.
Friendly calls often increase both parties’ social network, provide emotional support, and improve their quality of life.
Friendly Callers is an approved RSVP (Retired & Volunteer Program) station; volunteers are encouraged but not required to sign-up with RSVP and report your time as it earns national recognition and funding for senior volunteerism in our community.
